12 Horses - 6 different breeds all performing piaffe and passage and all horses taught by JP Giacomini. It’s interesting to see how relaxed the horse’s look once they’ve mastered these moves. There’s none of the tail swinging that you get in Grand Prix. I’m not saying the tail swinging is a bad thing necessarily, I think with some horses, especially in freestyle, they keep rhythm with their tail but sometimes the horses look a bit tight and tense. It’s also good to see self-carriage being encouraged. In the past, horse’s were not said to be truly educated until they achieved this, basically that the horse would still be able to work forwards with impulsion and tempo even on a loose rein. There seems to be less and less of this now. It takes years to achieve it correctly and that’s time that I think most people don’t have.
